    Coville Impressed with Henry
Travis HenryOn Sunday, August 1, 2010, in front of an enormous Rideau Carleton crowd, Travis Henry took home the Coville Cup. Son of Paul and Linda Henry, Travis not only impressed the Rideau Carleton faithful but also Coville himself. Travis clearly has what it takes to make it as a catch driver, said Coville, Rideau Carletons leading driver. He showed the raw talent, intelligence and poise that it takes to be successful. I am looking forward to racing against him in January and I think he is a formidable challenger.

As Coville Cup champion, Travis Henry will return to Rideau Carleton in early January for a 15 race head-to-head driver challenge with Darrell Coville. Obviously, Darrell will be tough to beat but Henry will certainly make it interesting, said NCRHHA Director John MacMillan. I was very impressed with this young man. You know one thing for sure, with Paul as his father, he learned to be a horseman before a driver and that knowledge is obviously going to serve him well in his driving career.

    1st Win for Turenne

Young up-and-coming driver, Sebastien Turenne captured his 1st lifetime win on Friday, April 2 at Rideau Carleton Raceway with Baia Hanover for trainer John MacMillan.

“Sebastien is an enthusiastic young driver that handles a horse beautifully,” commented MacMillan. “It is a very tough driving colony to break into at Rideau Carleton. If Sebastien gets some power to drive, he will win more than his share.”

    Temporary Purse Increase

Rideau Carleton Raceway, in association with the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association, has agreed to a 15 per cent increase in purses through the winter meet which concludes at the end of March.

RCR comptroller Pete Andrusek says with fewer race dates through the winter months, the increase in purse money is a sensible way to help the horsemen maintain viability until racing returns to its three-nights-a-week schedule at the capital oval.

Commencing April 1, purses will be restored to their original level.

Ultimate Racing Championship a Huge Success

On Sunday, January 10, 2010 the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association and Rideau Carleton Raceway presented their first ever Ultimate Racing Championship (URC). This event saw Coville Cup winner Maxime Audet and the “Champ” Darrell Coville square off in a 15 race driver challenge in support of the Christina Polifroni Scholarship Fund. It was an amazing event, with Max in the lead for over half the night. Darrell did not bow to the pressure and came from behind, showcasing his incredible driving talent, to take the Championship.

The evening was an exciting night, which supported a very worthwhile cause. Over $1200.00 was raised for the Christina Polifroni Scholarship Fund.
